Today, on the shelves of bookstores, a whole abyss of modern children's works has collapsed. But opening a colorful novelty, you find a fresh story that is unlikely to contribute to the development of the personality of your child. In this collection, we tried to help you make the right choice and list what children like and benefit from.
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
Childhood is the most magical time. Before plunging into the world of rationalism and adult problems, one must have time to enjoy the surreal chaos that lives in the minds of every child. It is at a young age that we are not satisfied with the scope of reality, but give the imagination a green light to the maximum.
It is the rejection of the usual logic and the desire to plunge into the limitless ocean of children's consciousness - the basis of the unusual tale of Lewis Carroll. The author leads the youngsters by the hand to a strange place where miracles happen: a blue caterpillar smokes a hookah, a smiling Cheshire cat appears and disappears, and the contents of the bottle with the inscription “Drink me!” reduces and increases the heroine ... If our guide to this unusual place is a little girl Alice, then her guide to Wonderland is the White Rabbit holding a pocket watch in her paw.
Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
How can you not like sweets? Especially in childhood, when chocolate is not just a treat, but a whole holiday. Roald Dahl opens up a whole delicious world where the outstanding pastry chef Willy Wonka invites children to visit his chocolate factory.
One of the lucky ones was Charlie Bucket. Imagine, the plant includes many workshops: walnut, tele-chocolate, inventions ... How to resist an excursion into the sweet life? But in addition to the brightly described chocolate paradise, children are waiting for a plot about the vices, because of which many guys could not go through the factory to the end. This fairy tale is a great example of a “tasty” plot with the filling of instruction on the right path.
Alexander Pushkin, “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish”
It is best to get acquainted with Pushkin’s work even before school, where his name will be identified with the great poet, which is undoubtedly deserved. However, we suggest starting a friendship with the famous Russian author with his work for children, for example, the fairy tale “about the fisherman and the fish”.
This is not just a story about a talking goldfish that knows how to fulfill wishes like a genie from a lamp. From childhood, Pushkin has been demonstrating to children how permissiveness and greed can change a person (in this case, an old woman) and what can happen in the end.
Tales of the Brothers Grimm
The young reader needs to get acquainted with the greatest storytellers, the Brothers Grimm. They will reveal a lot of stories to the child: about the young princess Snow White, who was friends with the seven dwarfs, about the brother and sister Hansel and Gretel, who got lost in the forest and ended up in the house of a blind witch, and about the lover of transactions - the evil dwarf Rumpelshtiltschen, whose name will be in adulthood it’s not at all difficult to pronounce. Thanks to German authors, girls, imitating Rapunzel, learn how it is sometimes beneficial to grow hair.
Charles Perrault, Cinderella
Many children have heard about this tale without even reading it. Cinderella didn’t have as much luxury as her sisters. But it is this famous book that teaches the child not to give up and not to despair in any situation, because the very heroine who was unlucky for most of her life is waiting for an impeccably happy ending, thanks to her virtue. The most important lesson of a fairy tale, which certainly must be learned, is that hard work and modesty can be fabulously encouraged by smart and grateful people.
And if the children follow the example of the main character, and not her sisters, then the visit of the Fairy Fairy, a wonderful ball, a dream wedding or other gifts of fate are guaranteed to everyone.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince
Every little person needs to know this book, and adults should reread it, as if it is a medicine that returns the atmosphere of childhood.
The Little Prince is not so much a hero as a peculiar archetype of an adult child. The character captivates the reader not only with his attitude to Rosa. Its bright sides open even in minor actions, for example, in admiring the sunsets. The author himself in the preface writes that "all adults were children, only few of them remember this." "The Little Prince" is an excellent occasion for adults to remember a wonderful time, and for children to enjoy fabulous moments. And, of course, one of the main thoughts that readers will learn: “We are responsible for those we tamed.”
Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe
Often this work of Defoe can be found in the section of children's literature, although in adulthood, lovers of educational books again turn to this text. A man divorced from civilization survives on the island for twenty-eight years, is this possible? For the hero, nature is not a temple, but a workshop, so Robinson Crusoe is not only interesting reading for young children, but also a real instruction for survival on a desert island.
Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that each of us will not find himself in such conditions, however, remembering the hardworking hero, the child will keep a person in himself in any border situation.
Roald Dahl, The Witches
A stunning story, after reading which, each child will begin to look closely at the passing women and look for the hallmarks of witches in them. The book destroys the traditional notion of ladies with magical powers. Black hats and a potion pot? Not! Gloves, a wig, strange nostrils - that's what really witches can be recognized with.
The young hero turns out to be one on one with them, but readers should not be afraid of the plot, on the contrary, they need to get acquainted with him as soon as possible.
James Matthew Barry, Peter Pan
If a child wants to become an adult, he needs to prove to him that childhood is the time that would be better to last longer. The protagonist of the tale is a boy who did not want to grow up, proving that miracles actually happen, and for this he becomes the idol of an entire generation.
The young reader will have a fight with a pirate, the magic pollen of a little fairy and the beautiful country of Neverland. Another work confirming how adults and young children look at life differently.
Joan Rowling, Harry Potter
This story is unique not only in its plot, but also in the fact that throughout his life Harry accompanies the reader, and it turns out that he grows up with him.
Magic is not just given from above, it needs to be trained in order to be a true professional. Having learned the motive of Harry Potter, the child will wait for a letter from Hogwarts, he will want an owl as a pet, and most importantly, he will learn to perceive the world even brighter and take up the matter responsibly.
