(285 words) In the novel “Oblomov” I.A. Goncharov talks about a man who lived his whole life in dreams and failed to bring them to life. It is amazing that the author stretches such a seemingly simple story into a whole novel. Another would write about it some 20-30 pages, where he would have laughed plenty at Oblomov, admired Stolz and Olga, and that’s all. But Goncharov wanted the reader to understand that Ilya Ilyich is not a simple hero. This is an archetype that is on a par with Hamlet, Don Quixote and Faust. He is the embodiment of the mentality of every Russian person. And it was important to convey to the public so that she could penetrate Oblomov’s image, understand his thoughts, motives of behavior and not be inclined to causeless condemnation.
Ilya Ilyich Oblomov is a typical lazy gentleman who cannot pull a stocking without the help of Zakhar. What is so tragic that the author found in the life of a hero? Of course, these are dreams that were not destined to become reality. And the worst thing is that Oblomov himself could not find the strength in himself to do anything for their embodiment. His life is a gradual merger with his own sofa and dressing gown into a single organism. And everything passes by his nose, like frames of film. Even the feeling of love cannot change this entrenched order.
But Ilya Ilyich cannot be called absolutely bad. He is educated, kind to others, knows how to admire beautiful things. Its main vice and curse is excessive infantilism, a fear of living and resolving issues related to one's own destiny. And all the fault of his upbringing, the so-called "Oblomovism". The hero grew up as a pampered boy, followed by all the servants, he was not taught a sense of responsibility, he had no idea that someday he would have to make efforts and work. That endless love and affection played a cruel joke with the boy: he became too spoiled and could not eradicate this trait in himself.
