(325 words) The theme of family values often appears on the pages of great novels, “Crime and Punishment” was no exception. After all, the Family is something that helps to understand the inner world of a person, often by the situation in the family you can judge which person and what prompted him to this or that act. In Dostoevsky’s novel, many families are represented, but we will consider those that are most likely to be remembered by readers.
The family of Rodion Raskolnikov consists of three people: Rodion and Avdotya Romanovna and Pulkheria Alexandrovna. In part, it can be said that the Raskolnikov family became the cause of his crime, because his mother and his sister had too much hope in Rodion. To help Pulcheria Alexandrovna and her brother, Dunya is forced to work with the Svidrigailovs, where the head of the family takes care of the main character’s sister in every way, and when she refuses Arkady Ivanovich Svidrigailov, he tries to discredit the honest name of Dunyasha. A letter to mother Raskolnikov - this is another reason why Rodion Romanovich decided to kill the old woman. It seems to him that by killing her, he will solve all his problems, save his loved ones from torment and the shame of poverty. Throughout the novel, the reader observes a strong bond and love in the Raskolnikov family.
Consider another family, no less significant for revealing the ideological essence of the novel - the Marmeladovs. This family consists of seven people: Marmeladov Semyon Zakharovich - the head of the family; Katerina Ivanovna - his wife; Sofya Semenovna - daughter of Marmeladov (from his first marriage); Katerina Ivanovna’s children (from her first marriage): Polenka (10 years old); Kolenka (seven years old); Lidochka (six years old, still called Lenechka). They are typical representatives of the philistines, philistines, who no longer live, but survive. But the Marmeladovs are not just the background, they play a special role in the novel. Firstly, the meeting of Semyon Marmeladov and Rodion Raskolnikov pushed the main character to kill the old woman. Secondly, Raskolnikov in all scenes with the Marmeladovs shows his true face; kind and deeply hearted person. Thirdly, Sonechka Marmeladova, thanks to her faith and love, helped Rodion Romanovich confess to his deeds, as well as spiritually reborn.
Thus, the families in the novel Crime and Punishment help to reveal and understand the plot, not to mention that it better shows the inner world of the characters.
